Spotify TV
Online music service Spotify has launched its first TV service in the Nordic region, partnering with Telecoms company TeliaSonera.
The service is now available to TeliaSonera’s 120,000 digital TV customers in Sweden and Finland, enabling Spotify Premium subscribers to access their music and playlists through their TVs, using their remote control.
According to Spotify CEO and founder Daniel Ek, "introducing Spotify into the living room is a major step forward in our continued efforts to make Spotify available wherever you are”. It has been suggested that this move into TV has also been driven by the wish to give users the chance to listen to music with better sound quality than through a computer or mobile device.
This exciting move into the digital TV sphere follows the successful launch of Spotify’s mobile app for iPhone, Android and smartphone platforms last year.
There has been no confirmation from the music service as to whether they will bring the TV service to the UK, however there has reportedly been interest from several consumer electronics companies in both the UK and further afield. Evidently, the introduction of this service to other regions will ultimately depend on the reception in the Nordic market. Lets hope it proves a success!
