Metro secures seven year Tube and bus deal in London

Associated Newspapers' Metro has virtually secured distribution on the London Underground and London bus stations until the end of 2017, after Transport for London said it planned to award it the contract.

The original 11-year deal that Metro landed in 1999 comes to an end on 2nd April this year. The new deal will last for seven and a half years. It appears unlikely Metro has had serious competition for the contract. The award of the concessions to distribute free newspapers at 250 Underground stations and around 14 London bus stations is still subject to contract. The new deal will expand the existing Metro recycling scheme to more stations, and includes new measures to reduce the number of copies left behind every day.
