Last week Google rolled out a completely new version of image search, with the key area of focus on the new ad formats being displayed.
From now on users who are searching Google images will be served sponsored ads appearing in the traditional yellow/beige shading at the top of the page. Google has offered these links in the past, but only for a select few advertisers, however it's now being fully rolled-out for all advertisers. It's expected the sponsored Google image search product is likely to garner higher CPC’s than non-image search ads do at present.
The new facelift to Google Images allows for larger thumbnails, and considerably more images to be viewed than previously offered through the site.
To give an indication of the size of this opportunity, Google image search queries account for approximately 15% of overall Google's World Wide queries.
