Facebook Credits gift cards go on sale at Tesco and Game

Facebook Credits gift cards (priced at £10 or £20) are now available at Tesco and Game (the video games retailer) in more than 1,000 stores across the United Kingdom.

This virtual currency is only redeemable on Facebook, where users can spend the credits on numerous virtual goods sold across hundreds of applications on Facebook.

Facebook hopes to turn these virtual credits into a stream of real income for the American company. The virtual goods market is currently booming and is expected to represent £550m in the UK by the end of 2010 according to The Guardian. Clearly Facebook is determined to take a stake of this growing market.

Facebook Credits are also an opportunity for advertisers to reward loyal customers by giving away Facebook Credits. This is an opportunity to consider if your key audience is very active on Facebook applications and would be attracted by this type of reward.
