Coronation Street - Life in the Old Dog yet as it celebrates its 50th Birthday Live
by Sean Japp, Head of TV
Coronation Street went live on the 9th December 2010 to celebrate its 50th year in existence. 14 million individuals in the UK (a massive 52.1% share of viewing) took it back to its glory days of Stan & Hilda Ogden and the psychotic Richard Hillman, (I’m showing my age now).
This amount of viewers was last recorded 7 years ago and was massively up on the Tram Crash episode on Monday Evening which drew in around 12.9 million individuals. Staggeringly, another 2 million individuals watched the repeat at 10.35pm.
In what will be a huge week for ITV1 with the X Factor Final on over the weekend it goes to prove that it is still the home of mass audiences and when it gets it right, as it has done this week, there is no channel like it for advertisers.
